Public Notice: Mandatory GST Registration for Short-Term Accommodation Providers
To all operators of short-term accommodations, including those using platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, and similar services:
This is a reminder that all short-term rental accommodations are required to register under the GST Act. This requirement applies to any business providing temporary lodging to guests, regardless of the platform used. In addition, all operators must obtain a valid business license to legally operate. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in penalties, fines, or other legal actions.
The Inland Revenue Department is committed to upholding a fair and transparent tax system by ensuring that all eligible providers are registered for GST. Beginning October 1st, 2024, any operator found operating without proper registration will be in violation of the law and will be issued a citation stating such.
We urge all operators to comply by completing the necessary registration and obtaining a business license.
