Press release - July 2022 GST Return Due Date

Comptroller of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) notifies of due date to file first return for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and advises taxable persons to file and pay on time to avoid accrual of penalties and interest.

The Valley, Anguilla – Section 31 of the GST Act stipulates that every taxable person is required to file a return with the Comptroller for each tax period within 20 days after the end of the period. If the 20th falls on a weekend or public holiday, the due date is the next working day. The first GST return, that is, for tax period July 2022 is due on Monday 22nd August 2022. (See Tax Calendar on IRD’s Website for due dates.)

A return is required to be filed whether or not transactions were conducted during the tax period. No additional information is required to be submitted with the return, however records are to be kept for a period of seven (7) years and made available for inspection by IRD officers.

The Comptroller prescribes that all GST returns are filed on the IRD Online Portal. Taxable persons who have not already done so, are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible at services.gov.ai. Payments can also be made online by credit or debit card using our E-pay Portal or alternately via online banking to the Government of Anguilla Bank accounts listed on the Notice of Assessment. If utilizing the latter option, be sure to include the payment reference number in the payment description details.

Failure to file a return and pay on time will result in penalties and interest being applied.

Taxable persons are also encouraged to contact the IRD Taxpayer Services Unit for assistance with completing and filing the GST return. Our office hours are 8:00am to 3:00pm Mondays to Fridays. For more information, please refer to the Guide for Completing the GST Return which is available on the IRD’s website. A demo video can also be found on the Government of Anguilla YouTube channel. Please also feel free to contact the Department at gst@gov.ai  or inlandrevenue@gov.ai and visit our website and Facebook page for the most current publications on GST.
