Press Release - Notice to Business Owners Operating Without A License
NOTICE TO ALL BUSINESS OWNERS OPERATING WITHOUT A VALID BUSINESS LICENCE
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) reminds all business owners in Anguilla that operating without a valid business licence is a violation of the Licencing of Businesses Act. Effective immediately, any person carrying on business without a valid licence will be issued a notice of cessation and required to cease operations until such time as a valid licence is approved and acquired.
The Business Licensing Board ensures that all businesses meet the necessary requirements to operate legally and safely. This includes obtaining permits and undergoing inspections where applicable, such as health inspections for food establishments or certifications for building and electrical services. Businesses operating without proper authorisation bypass these critical safeguards, potentially putting public health, safety, and the environment at risk.
To uphold a fair and equitable business environment, compliance with licensing requirements is mandatory. Legitimate businesses invest time and resources to meet these obligations, and it is imperative that all operators meet the same standards.
Renewal Reminder:
All business licences are due for renewal no later than January 31, 2025. Business owners who have not yet renewed their licences are strongly encouraged to do so immediately to avoid disruptions to their operations. The Renewal of Business License Application Form (which can be downloaded from the IRD’s website at www.ird.gov.ai) should be fully completed and submitted to the IRD with the supporting documents as requested on the form.
If your business is no longer in operation, you are required to complete an Application for Closure Form. Once submitted, all accounts associated with the business will be reviewed to determine if it meets the requirements for closure. This may also include a site visit to the business location. This step is critical to formally end any tax obligations and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
This notice applies to, but is not limited to, the following types of businesses:
- Bars
- Water Delivery Services
- Plumbers
- Auto Mechanics and Garages
- Photography and Videography Services
- Printing and Graphic Design Services
- Beauty Salons
